FAQ
What makes your beef tallow different?
Our tallow is wet rendered and filtered using steam distillation, meaning no chemicals are used at any point in the process. This results in a clean, pure product.
Do you use suet in your tallow?
As part of our zero-waste mission, we use all the fat from the cow, including about 10–20% suet. This helps create a richer, more nutrient-dense tallow.
What does your tallow feel like at room temperature?
Our tallow has a consistency similar to firm butter at room temperature and melts around 120°F. Consistency may be different during warmer months. Use re-firming guide if needed.
What is the shelf life of your tallow?
Properly stored, our tallow lasts:
- 1 year at room temperature
- 2 years in the refrigerator
- 3–4 years if frozen
Make sure to keep it sealed and out of direct sunlight to maximize freshness.
Where does your tallow come from?
We proudly partner with a few trusted U.S. farms to source our beef fat. All tallow is packed and shipped directly from our shop in Delaware.
What can I use your tallow for?
Our tallow is incredibly versatile! It can be used for:
- Soap making (adds hardness and creaminess)
- Skincare (as a balm or base for salves and lotions)
How is your tallow shipped?
Each order is sealed in a high-quality, airtight pail to preserve freshness, prevent leaks, and ensure a clean, mess-free experience from start to finish.
For larger orders, we may pack the product in larger buckets to make shipping easier.
I like the smell and it feels good on my skin. It does a fair job of keeping the mosquitos off me while I work in the garden.
Works to repel bugs. Skin is soft after use.
While this balm has a long-lasting scent, and I appreciate the lack of harmful chemicals, it is lacking a bit in terms of its effectiveness. Perhaps it's because the scent is quite faint, or maybe it's because there is a very small amount to go around available here, but I did not find that applying this curbed the onslaught of mosquitoes.
I'm always a little on the fence about how well citronella really repels mosquitos especially when you've only got maybe a band on one arm or a candle burning on one side of you etc. This is kind of nice that you can spread it over all of your exposed skin, directly where it needs to do the repelling, sort of like a bug spray but without getting it all over your clothes etc. It makes it easy to tell if it's working or not too. As far as I could tell, when I used it while stargazing, I didn't notice any mosquitos on areas I had rubbed this in so I guess that's about all I could ask for.I do wish it was a little cheaper for the size, but I'm hoping in the long run this will last for roughly the same number of "uses" as maybe two cans of bug spray would. I'm not sure if it can stretch that far or not yet.
I really like the blend of lemongrass and citronella. I've always loved the smell of lemongrass and this isn't overpowering in strength. The can was dented and there is no list of ingredients (beeswax? cocoa butter? shea butter? something else entirely?), which is unfortunate. Many of us want natural options, but to feel great about them we need to know what we are putting on our bodies.
